The addition of Ningbo formed the concept of “China Grand Canal” 2014-06-23

The important water conservancy facility of the Zhedong Canal in the Daxiba Qing'an Hall, which is docked with Xiaoxiba, is the Pengshan Tower in Cicheng. Yesterday, in Doha, Qatar, the Executive Chairman of the 38th World Heritage Committee Conference, Princess Qatar of Qatar announced the successful application of the “Canal” by China. The voice just fell, and representatives of all UNESCO member states gave a warm applause to the Grand Canal. The scope of the Chinese Grand Canal application includes the Sui and Tang Dynasties Grand Canal, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the Zhedong Canal, which traverse the central and eastern regions of China. It has been 8 years since the start of the application. From this moment on, the China Grand Canal was officially listed on the World Heritage List and became the 32nd world cultural heritage in China. From this moment on, the Grand Canal, which is surrounded by the hearts of the people of Ningbo, was sent to the world stage and finally won the international community. From this moment, the successful application of the Chinese Grand Canal has also achieved zero breakthrough in the world cultural heritage of the city. 1. The difficulty of applying for the legacy is beyond the imagination of 2009. This year, the Grand Canal was included in China's 2014 World Cultural Heritage Project. It is understood that there are six criteria for the selection of world cultural heritage, and the China Grand Canal meets three of them: the idea of genius is a giant system project with important creativity in the history of the world canal project; the unique testimony of this lost cultural tradition; The outstanding and unique examples in the history of the canal show the long historical stage and great influence of the development of artificial canals in the period of agricultural civilization, and represent the outstanding achievements of civil engineering before the industrial revolution. The World Heritage Committee believes that China's Grand Canal is the longest and oldest artificial waterway in the world. It is also the largest and most extensive project before the Industrial Revolution. It promotes the exchange of materials and territorial jurisdiction of China's North and South. Outstanding wisdom, determination and courage of the Chinese people, and outstanding achievements of Eastern civilization in water technology and management capabilities. But when the Grand Canal re-entered people's visions in 2006 because of the launch of the World Heritage, it was discovered that the difficulty of applying for the Grand Canal was far beyond imagination. Tong Mingkang, deputy director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, said yesterday that the complexity and difficulty of the work of the Grand Canal heritage protection and application for the work of the World Heritage is unique in the history of China's declaration of world cultural heritage, but the concept of protection of world heritage through the application of the Grand Canal. The Grand Canal, which is one-eighth of China's total population, has spread widely and is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. 2. Ningbo is one of the two important nodes of the Grand Canal. Even a few years ago, the Grand Canal in the eyes of experts and scholars and the ordinary people was the Grand Canal. However, the concept of the “China Grand Canal” is to include the three canals of the Beijing-Hangzhou, Sui and Tang Dynasties and the Zhedong Canal. In April of this year, Qi Xin, an advocate of the “Canal Heritage Trail” and an expert advisory committee of the China Cultural Relics Protection Foundation, gave a lecture entitled “The Grand Canal and Our Life” in the “Tianyi Lecture Hall” of the Ningbo Library. In the lecture, he reiterated the significance of Ningbo to the Grand Canal of China. "In fact, in 2008, with the addition of Ningbo, the value of the East China Canal was recognized, and the concept of 'China Grand Canal' was formally formed." Qi Xin said, "There is no Chinese Grand Canal in history, it is A noun that refers to the concept of the application." "The Chinese Grand Canal has two nodes. It is these two nodes that make the value of the Grand Canal completely different." Qi Xin said that the nodes of the Sui and Tang Canals are in Luoyang, Zhedong. The node of the canal is in Ningbo. “Luoyang is the core hub of the Silk Road on the land, and Ningbo is an important node connecting the Silk Road on the land and the Silk Road on the Sea.” The Grand Canal Ning Band is the economic hinterland of the Jiangnan River. The excellent waterway of the sea transport, which extends the traditional land trade route to the sea through the Grand Canal and the Maritime Silk Road. 3. Ning Band is a “live” heritage. Ningbo is listed in the World Heritage List of the Grand Canal of China as “two paragraphs”. The “second section” is the upper section of the Zhedong Canal – the Yuyao section and the Zhedong Canal, and the total length of the river is about 48 kilometers. This “one point” is also very representative: Sanjiangkou is the junction of the Grand Canal and the Maritime Silk Road, while the Qing’an Hall on the Sanjiangkou is the main management and service facility for the grain and the North-South trade. In history, many poets have left the poems of the population through the Grand Canal. Among them, the more detailed ones have also been written by the Korean Cui Wei, "The Drifting Sea Record." In the twenty-third year of Ming Chenghua (1487), Cui Wei’s ship was in a storm. He and more than 40 people from the same boat floated from Jeju Island in North Korea to the coast of eastern Zhejiang. Later, they were escorted to the capital along the Zhedong Canal and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The Zhedong Canal "is on both sides of the river, and the city and the squadrons are like clouds." In just a few words, today people can imagine the extent of the prosperous market. With the development of the times, similar to most cities along the Grand Canal, the original navigation function of the Zhedong Canal flowing through Ningbo has gradually weakened, and the main functions have been converted into ecology, irrigation and flood control. But it is not difficult to find that today's Grand Canal still has a long river channel, as well as countless bridges, docks, locks and official warehouses, halls and pavilions along the coast. This historical symbol records the changes and vicissitudes of the Grand Canal in the millennium. 4. The success of the application is not a once-in-a-lifetime. The Grand Canal has become the first project in the city to be officially listed as a World Cultural Heritage. So, what can this historic event bring to the city of Ningbo? Jiang Huaihai, deputy director of Ningbo Wenbao Institute, who is responsible for the application of the Grand Canal in Ningbo, said in an interview that Ningbo has rich historical and cultural heritage, but for so many years, there has never been a worldwide cultural symbol. It will greatly enhance the influence of Ningbo and strengthen the competitiveness of urban development." Ningbo Xiangjie expert Xiang Xiangdong also talked about the benefits of the success of the Grand Canal application to Ningbo. He said: "What benefits do you say to Tianyige? There is no direct benefit. But there are guests coming, some friends are coming, what? Look at the place? Go to Tianyi Pavilion. You see, Ningbo people will not only make money, but also study.” He believes that cultural heritage protection is first of all spiritual, “Secondly, it tells us what to keep, not to swear. Get it, and discover it for economic and social development." The original intention of the application is of course to better protect the historical and cultural remains. "The protection of the heritage is the skin, the use of the heritage is Mao, and the skin will not be preserved. After the success of the application, we will still put protection first. At the same time, some tourism projects will be developed appropriately.” In Jiang Huaihai’s view, the biggest goal of developing tourism projects is to make the citizens closer to the canal.
