Baoguo Temple is located in the heart of Lingshan Mountain in the north of Hongtang Town, Jiangbei District, 15 kilometers away from the urban area.
Baoguo Temple was formerly Lingshan Temple.
The unique architectural style of the Daxiong Baodian in the temple is unique and it is the essence of Baoguo Temple architecture. Daxiong Baodian is the main building in the temple. It has a double-eaves and mountain-like structure. It is the oldest existing wooden structure in Jiangnan. It has three rooms (11.91 meters) wide and three rooms (13.35 meters) deep. The majestic treasure hall is majestic, and all the structures are cleverly connected with bucket arches and precise tenon-and-mortise technology. Each component of the building is firmly combined without a nail, supporting the weight of the entire hall roof.
From 2002 to 2003, Ms. Guo Daizhen, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Tsinghua University, a professor of architecture at Tsinghua University, co-authored and published a monograph entitled "The First Mountain in Donglai, one in Baoguo Temple". .
This is by far the most comprehensive and authoritative work on the ancient buildings of Baoguo Temple. It has been included in many countries and regions such as the United States, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, as well as key domestic universities and libraries. The historical display of the Baoguo Temple Ancient Architecture Museum has made extensive use of the results of this research.
At the same time, Baoguo Temple is the only temple in China without a monk or a bodhisattva.
But Baoguo Temple is not famous for its religious temples, but because our ancestors were amazing with their superb building techniques a thousand years ago. Among them, the Daxiong Baodian was rebuilt in the sixth year (1013) of Dazhong Xiangfu in the Northern Song Dynasty. It is one of the oldest and most well-preserved wooden structures south of the Yangtze River in China.
Baoguo Temple, as an ancient temple complex, was built in the sixth year (1013) of Dazhong Xiangfu in the Northern Song Dynasty. It currently covers an area of 13,280 square meters, a construction area of 7,000 square meters, and 28 hectares of natural mountain forest outside the temple. In March 1961, it was announced by the State Council as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. Baoguo Temple retains buildings of different styles from Tang to Ming and Qing Dynasties, which is the crystallization of the wisdom of working people of all ages.
There are ten scenes in Baoguo Temple:
Linglong Spring: It is one of the eight branches of the Lingshan Mountain. Linglongquan is clear, reflecting the blue sky. There are dragon dance claws along the lake. Longkou waters all the year round and falls into the valley. The dragon tail is hidden in Lintan cave. The mouth of the hole is chiseled with the three characters "Linglongquan".
For a long time, there is a beautiful legend about Linglong Spring: In the past, a jade dragon violated the rule of heaven for helping people resist drought and rain, and was punished in Lingshan. But when he came to Lingshan, he found that the drought was also severe here, and he turned to the East China Sea to help the villagers irrigate the farmland. However, because he violated the sky, he was turned into a stone dragon and locked on Lingshan forever.
Enter the head gate of Baoguo Temple, go up the stone steps, and the pit on the right is getting deeper and deeper. About a hundred steps across the bridge, a bridge named Xianren Bridge. According to the record of Baoguo Temple in Jiaqing, "... went ashore from the river port, passed the stone pillars, twisted and zigzags, crossed the Xianren Bridge, and the Wenwu Temple was on the rampart." It means that the road to Yuanjin Temple came from the foot of Dongyan Mountain. The bridge is a must.
Outside the gate of Baoguo Temple, it is halfway up the Lingshan Mountain. There is a pavilion on the stage, which is a house for three people. There are thousands of camphor, green maple, and ginkgo trees beside the pavilion. The branches are old and playable; in the autumn, they may be moist, red or rotten, or yellow ripe. There are also hundreds of bamboo trees, sparse and dense, scattered, the wind blows, and the sound of Xiao Xiao makes people linger. The platform in front of the court is empty and high, overlooking the railings, the clouds are like golden, floating and overlapping, floating in layers, changing bright and clear, thinking, and the pavilion is named after it.
Green Building Pavilion:
On Lion Rock, the octagon, double eaves, pavilion has a radius of 3 meters. The east and west sides are for import and export, and there are seats in the pavilion.
On the elephant trunk peak, octagon, double eaves, pavilion radius of 3.5 meters. There is a stone table with stools in the pavilion, and a round fence outside the pavilion.
The elephant trunk peak is flat and there is an old high platform, which is the place to watch the sunrise. The old "Zhi" contained a side of the remnant monument, which was engraved with the phrase "Five Nights Peak Looking at the Sunrise, Pingming Sea Bottom to See Xiteng". Later on the stage, Wang Ri Pavilion was built, and the poems of the predecessors said: "The peak was once remembered with a high platform, and today the pavilion is built with grass and grass."

At that time, Baoguo Temple held an annual bayberry festival every year, which attracted tourists from all over the country to pick and taste.
Outside the east wall of Baoguo Temple, the area is about 900 square meters. According to legend, when Zhang Yi, the general of the Eastern Han Dynasty, retired here, he used it as a place for Xiqi, hence the name. Later it was the pagoda of Baoguo Temple.
The ancient trees at Qiqiping are towering, including 7 maple trees and 3 camphor trees, which are about 40 meters high and nearly 400 years old. They are precious. The grass inside the ping pei is so green that birds can be heard cicadas.
Passing through Yang Meilin, it is the passageway to Diejintai and Qingzhuang Pavilion. The ringing stone steps are 200 meters high and 256 steps, each step is 1.2 meters wide and 0, 2 meters high. As the name implies, the ringing stone steps are pedestrians walking on the stone steps. The stone steps will make a gurgling sound. The heavier the pedals, the louder the echo.
Lan Cui Pavilion
Turn north halfway through the ringing stone steps, facing a bayberry forest. To the north is Diejin Terrace, facing the Fairy Bridge, and the Zhulian: Qingluan Cuizhuan climbs the Diejin to Shu Xiao; The pavilion is a double-layer hexagonal all-stone pavilion with right side chairs on all sides, two access roads on the north and south, and a pavilion in the pavilion.
To the west of the bamboo forest outside the fence of Baoguo Temple, there is the tomb of Zongxian, the ancestor of Baoxing Zhongxing, who built the main hall.
